Cut-offs dropped by 3 to 8 marks in every category between the 69th and 71st CCE. The usual reasons are a harder paper, more vacancies, or both.

What score is safe for BPSC 72nd Prelims?

No one can predict the 72nd cut-off before the result. Based on the last two cycles, Unreserved candidates scoring about 90 or more net marks out of 150 have qualified comfortably. Reserved-category candidates have needed less. Treat this as a target for your mock tests, not a guarantee.

What decides the BPSC cut-off?

  • Number of vacancies: more posts means more candidates called to Mains, which lowers the cut-off.
  • Paper difficulty: a tougher paper lowers scores across the board.
  • Number of candidates: more serious applicants push cut-offs up.
  • Reservation: separate merit lists are drawn for each category and for women.

Prelims marks are used only to decide who goes on to Mains. Your final rank depends on Mains and the interview. See the BPSC exam pattern.
